H.B.B.C. DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

The Scriptures

We believe that the Bible is verbally inspired and that it is the final authority in all manners of faith, doctrine, and practice.  We believe that the Bible reveals God, the fall of man, the way of salvation, and God's plan and purpose through the ages.  We further believe in the perfect preservation of the Bible in the form of the AV 1611, King James Bible  (I Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21; Psalm 119:89, 140, 160; Proverbs 30:5).

The Godhead

We believe that there is only one true and living God, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit  (Exodus 20:2-3; Colossians 2:9; Genesis 17:1; Philemon 2:5-6; Revelation 4:11; I John 5:7).

The Person of Christ

We believe in the deity, virgin birth, and the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We believe in the personal, visible, premillennial, pretribulational return of Jesus Christ  (Matthew 2:1-7; I Corinthians 15; I Thessalonians 4:13-16; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 28:1-7).

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, converts the repentant, seals God's children, indwells every Believer, and endues them with soul winning power  (John 14:16-17; Matthew 28:19; John 3:5-6; Genesis 1:2; John 14:26).

The Fallen Nature of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell through sin, bringing not only physical death but also spiritual death- separation from God.  Now all mankind is totally depraved, having inherited a sinful nature; is bent toward sinning; and has become sinful in thought, word, and deed  (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:16-17; 3:6-19; Romans 3:10-23; 6:23).

Salvation

We believe that man is lost and must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God.  Salvation is by grace alone through personal faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross  (I John 1:12; 3:3-7; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Eternal Security of Believers

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever  (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; I Corinthians 1:4-8; I Peter 1:4-5)

The Local Church

We believe that the local church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born-again persons (I Corinthians 12:12-14; II Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-27).  We believe that the establishment and the continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11).  We believe in the autonomy of the local church, free of any external authority or control (Acts 13:1-4; 15:19-31; 20:28; Romans 16:1, 4; I Corinthians 3:9, 16; 5:4-7, 13: I Peter 5:1-4).

Personal Separation

We believe that every born-again believer should live a life that will not bring reproach upon his/her Saviour.  We further believe that God commands the believer to be free from all apostasy, worldly and sinful pleasures, and affiliations with organizations or persons of questionable practices or associations (Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 6:14-17; II Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17).

Ecclesiastical Separation

We are independent, fundamental Baptists.  We believe that Modernism, Liberalism, Ecumenicalism, Neo-Evangelicalism, Catholicism, and Armenianism are not of God, but are of the antichrist.  These groups are erroneous both in doctrine and practice, therefore we do not agree, associate or cooperate with these apostate groups  (Jude4; Romans 16:17-18; Ephesians 5:11; Galatians 1:8-10; I John 2:22).

The Return of Christ

We believe in that "blessed hope," the personal, imminent return of Christ who will rapture believers prior to the seven-year Tribulation Period.  At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel (Psalm 89:3-4; Daniel 2:31-45; Zechariah 14:4-11; I Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6).

The Eternal State

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men - the saved to the eternal life, and the unsaved to the judgment and everlasting punishment  (Matthew 25:46; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Revelation 20:5-6, 12-13).  We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord  (Luke 23:43; II Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 3:21; I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:4-6).  We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain after death in conscious punishment and torment until the second resurrection when, with soul and body reunited, they shall appear at the Great White Throne Judgment and shall be cast into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment and torment  (Matthew 25:41-46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:19-26; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; Jude 6-7; Revelation 20:11-15).

Creation

We believe that God created the universe in six literal, twenty-four hour periods.  We reject Evolution, the Gap Theory, the Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin  (Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11).
